about

Once "Hiems" (Winter), now "Cove-Gods" (Cofgodas)
August 2022 - October 2022 - March 2023

Cicadas of Croatia, crickets of Kromeriz, flu-noises of a winter fever, electromagnetic orchestra, unconvincing pedalboard
SP-404 processed and arranged.

"Cove-Gods" is a literal translation of the old English word "cofgodas", meaning a household god or domestic deity in Anglo-Saxon paganism.

Each track is a transmutation between the time and place the found sounds and field recordings were collected - out in the world and in the sun - and the bundled-up hibernal winter mind-set of their processing, arrangement, mixing and finishing. There are many conversations across this project, interior and exterior being the first -

Trains, seagulls, swans and synthesisers stew together on "Perpetual Soup", big thanks to Thaumiel (thaumiel.bandcamp.com/album/grain) and BUL_i (jaebeecomms.bandcamp.com) for their support on this track.

Quadbikes, cicadas and nasal bass bicker on "Lily Voice Quadbike", a title derived from "The Lily Voice of the Cicadas ("Iliad" 3.152)" by W.B. Stanford.

"Bush-Splitting Din" also quotes this essay, electromagnetic pulses set against a backdrop of cacophonous sparrows and horror soundscaping.

"Hibernation" was created during a snow storm to imagine the comforts of a deep sleep in the soil, whilst "Kettle Yelling" was conceived in the midst of a raging winter fever from December found sounds.

"Ouroborus" is a cyclical exercise in stridulations, "Niht-Genga" ("Night-Goblin") was once a mouth harp.

"Secerweorc" (meaning "Fieldwork") exists in two different versions; on "Paeans" (2022) it is short, busy and dynamic, here it is longer and louder.
